Practical Training for Poultry Producers

On the range it is often necessary to carry out emergency slaughter and many are unsure of the most humane method.  In addition many small producers want to slaughter chickens for their own consumption. 

This is a practical course where you will learn neck dislocation on recently slaughtered chickens.  This is the best way to learn how to do this without compromising the welfare of the animal.  You will also have the opportunity to practice evisceration of chickens.

Who is it for?

Poultry producers and smallholders who want to learn how to humanely despatch chickens.

What do you need to bring?

All equipment and protective clothing will be provided.

Is there any accommodation?

If you are travelling from far afield there are good local B&Bs very close by, please ask when booking.

About the trainer.

Steve Merritt is a licensed slaughterman who was trained by The Meat Hygiene Service to slaughter chickens in the small scale abbatoir at The Welsh Poultry Centre.

The cost is £35.00 per place.
